9 races to kick off this mid-January Thursday action. No feature. I will be condensing my plays down to just the number and attacking the early double (Races 1 & 2) and a spot pick 3 (Races 4-6). Race 3:
(7) DARK DEVIL drops to his lowest level and has the speed figures to handle this group. Ain't No Joke will likely put some pressure on him but that outside post will make him lose some ground if others go too. I'll side witht the Devil for this race and look for value underneath.
We'll use (3) Dialbolico and (5) True Connection underneath for the exacta

Cox saw something in (3) CASTLE ISLAND as he claimed this one in early December. I don't see him play the claiming game often, so I'll include this gelding to try and take them all the way. (4) PADDINGTON takes a sharp drop. Rice normally spots them where they belong, but this smells funny to me. I'll just use defensively here as his last two races were not very good. I'll take a stab with (2) I SEE YOU LOOKIN finding the right field. The trainer is winning; he should get a cozy spot right behind the leaders. His race back in October wins this today.

Race 8:
(2) HEAVENLY LIGHT is another from Cox and City Of Light today. Franco is teaming up again, looking to go back to back. They add L1 off a solid maiden score last time. Manny jumps off (5) NILO'S ROSE , who has the fastest speed figures of this bunch. She likes to stalk, so she wants a fast pace to develop. (4) HIGHER FORCE dropped to 40k and added blinkers. That produced an easy score. However, that was in the slop and proved that she can handle the off going in her debut. (6) NICK'S NOTION is the outsider. She ships in and gets L1 for the first time.

Race 9:
(6) I'M KIDDING figures to take money, and Franco looks live on all his mounts today. This Practical Joke dropped last time to this level and just missed taking them all the way. There is plenty of speed inside her, so she'll need to break sharp and control the front. I'm thinking she'll have company, so I'll try to close the show with the two closers. Both (5) MIA NIPOTINE and (7) BETTER BE SMART fit that role. They both sport several attempts, but most of them were against better. They exit the same race last time, so whoever works out the best trip will be right there.
