Belmont: Saturday, 4/30, Plays - Pete's Picks

Writer: Little PeteLittle Pete

We have a week until the coveted Kentucky Derby and we are going to stick with the NY state of mind. We have some competitive races on today's card with a Stakes race in the 9th; we are looking to cash in some tickets to improve our bankroll going into the next weekend at Churchill. I will be taking down the early double (Races 1-2) and a middle pick 3 ( Races 5-7) . Big Pete will have his full breakdown on his "Play of the Day" and the late pick 3 (Races 8-10). We appreciate you taking a look at this write-up and GOOD LUCK.

Little Pete's $1.00 Early Double:

R1: 3, 4, 6

R2: 2, 4, 5
Cost: $9.00

Little Pete's $ 1.00 Spot Pick 3:

R5: 3, 5, 9, 10

R6: 2, 8, 9, 10

R7: 3, 6, 7

Cost: $48.00

Big Pete's $ 1.00 Late Pick 3:

R8: 5, 8, 10

R9: 2, 6, 7, 11

R10: 4, 6, 7, 8

Cost: $ 48.00

Little Pete's Early Double:

Race 1:

(6) Road to Success will look to be on the lead in this one and I think Kendrick will have this horse poised for sustained success. (4) Majestic Tiger will be sitting right behind the speed and the workout leading in leads me to believe that Jose Ortiz will be able to break well and sit right off the rail throughout and wait for the lane to open up. (3) It's Mandatory is my last play in here who I really like to be the strongest closer. If there is any speed early, then I think this horse benefits the most and makes it very interesting late.

$3.00 WPS 6 Cost: $9.00

$2.00 Ex Box 3,4,6 Cost: $12.00

Race 2:

The two favorites, (2) Aristocratic & (4) Happy Farm, look much the best in here and must be included. I favor (4) Happy Farm after the impressive win last time out and gaining Jose Ortiz for this one. The only other horse I think should get some consideration is (5) Glory Road. I think Dylan Davis will be aggressive from the break and opens this horse up late down the stretch. I like how this race could play out with the two favorites battling a bit for the lead and then having this horse close strongly.

$3.00 WPS 4 Cost: $9.00

$2.00 Ex Box 2,4,5 Cost: $12.00

Big Pete's "Play of the Day":

Race 3:

Irad makes his 2022 Belmont debut in this cheap claiming one turn race. He has (6) MAGNETRON who has been popular in the claim game recently and is a head away from being 3 for 3 in his prior 3 claiming attempts. No chance against No Salt last time but appears to be well placed today.

Both (3) Musical America and (7) Flowers For Lisa are likely to sit back early and try to work themselves into the exacta.

$ 7.00 WPS 6 Cost $ 14.00

$ 7.00 Exacta 6 w/ 3, 7 Cost $ 14.00

We’ll also use Magnetron in R3 and try to cash in on a DAILY DOUBLE play.

(2) Grand Journey and (6) Summer To Remember look solid in the 4th

$ 7.00 Double 6 w/ 2, 6 Cost $ 14.00

Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:

Race 5:

This is a wide open race in my opinion, which is why I am going to go four deep in here. (3) Adversity didn't perform well against winner's last time out, but the morning workouts look good and I think a better performance should be expected from this Mark Casse horse. (5) Thinking It Over picks up Rosario in here and I think will be more strategically used in this one. This horse has the ability to kick on late and the ride could make all the difference. (9) Bankers Daughter will be sent out from the gate early and I always like including horses that want the lead and sustain speed throughout the race; this sprint should be interesting with the size of the field and I like horses I know will be up there early. (10) Blame it on Mary is my last play in here who should be able similar in tactic by finding the early lead or stalking the pace and I trust Jose Ortiz to have this horse poised for a nice stretch drive.

$3.00 WPS 3 Cost: $9.00

$2.00 Ex 3,9 w/ 3,5,9,10 Cost: $12.00

$1.00 Ex 5,10 w/ 3,5,9,10 Cost: $6.00

Race 6:

(2) Gather the Facts from the Chad Brown barn is too much to leave off the ticket first time out, especially on grass. (8) Dame Time has shown the ability and I think will be a menace in this one after the layoff. I think Trevor McCarthy will be aggressive from the jump and the experience and speed will pay off well against these unproven horses. (9) Big Bee should benefit from the cutback in distance and be strong right behind the lead and waiting for the stretch drive; Jose Ortiz will have this horse ready to roll. (10) Broadway Boogie is another firster I will give a shot in here. I think Dylan will need to be aggressive early and I love Uncle Mo horses on grass. I think this horse will be impressive first time out and should be a decent price.

$3.00 WPS 8 Cost: $9.00

$2.00 Ex 2,8 w/ 2,8,9,10 Cost: $12.00

$1.00 Ex 9,10 w/ 2,8,9,10 Cost: $6.00

Race 7:

I am closing with three horses and two of them are the Brown and Pletcher horses; really reaching on my end here.. (3) Southern District has the post position and coming in after an extremely impressive last race. Manny should seek a position inside and wait for the moment to fan out wide and run down the front runners. (6) Waxman is going to get an aggressive ride from Irad Ortiz in here and I think will be able to sustain a huge run in here. I like the thought of this horse wiring the field if left alone on the lead. (7) Market Alert is my last play in here who is coming in after an impressive win and training lights out leading into this one. I think Vargas will have this horse involved early and makes a splash late.

$3.00 Ex Box 3,6,7 Cost: $18.00

Big Pete's Late Pick 3:

Race 8:

Rice has (10) UMBRIA in mid-season form already with two solid dirt attempts after a short rest. They now switch to the turf where he has hit the board in all four attempts. Jose getting the leg up makes this guy tough today. (8) LORD FLINTSHIRE had too much to overcome after a rough beginning last Nov. He makes his 2022 debut with some quick breezes and Irad is back in town for the ride. He’ll be much closer to the pace today and will be heard from late. (5) SALUTE TO AMERICA has been searching for turf. A nice maiden score in the slop should have this guy ready for his grass debut. Castellano gets the re-ride and they should get first jump on the closers.

$ 7.00 WPS 10 Cost $ 21.00

$ 3.00 Ex 8, 10 w/ 2, 5, 8, 10 Cost $ 18.00

Race 9:

Brown cuts back (6) VALUE PROPOSITION to a preferred 7F sprint and may have found the right field. He’ll look to control the front end and try to kick away on the turn. If they leave him alone, that likely won’t catch him. I like the City Zip, (7) SNAPPER SINCLAIR getting back on the turf. Did zero running overseas and is now put where he belongs. He held his own in G2 company last year and beat similar in Kentucky. (2) BIG PACKAGE is interesting as he was close to Vale Proposition when they met back in Nov. This is his first race back from that race but has done well off layoffs in the past .

$ 7.00 WPS 8 Cost $ 21.00

$ 3.00 Ex 7, 8 w/ 2, 6, 7, 11 Cost $ 18.00

Race 10:

(4) TAP’N DE BANK adds L1 and Johnny V. They are the only one of those that have raced that I’m interested in. He showed some speed before giving way so the L1 may have something to do with that. The other three we’ll use are all first time starters. In no particular order, (6) GEORGE’S GAMBIT, (7) BASIS RISK and (8) TWO FOR CHARGING have win early pedigree and the right connections to be a factor. .

$ 7.00 WPS 4 Cost $ 21.00

$ 3.00 Ex 4, 7 w/ 4, 6, 7, 8 Cost $ 18.00
