Belmont: Saturday, 5/21, Plays - Pete's Picks

Writer: Little PeteLittle Pete

We are expected to see temperatures near the 90's today which means that it will be a great day to stay inside and bet the horses (Or be outside, but still bet the horses)! We have an 11 card race day today and I will be taking down the early double (Races 1-2) and a middle pick 3 (Races 6-8) . Big Pete will have his full breakdown on his "Play of the Day" and the late pick 3 (Races 9-11). We appreciate you taking a look at this write-up and GOOD LUCK.

Little Pete's $2.00 Early Double:

R1: 5, 6

R2: 2, 6, 8
Cost: $12.00

Little Pete's $ 1.00 Spot Pick 3:

R6: 3, 9

R7: 1, 3, 4, 6

R8: 1, 6, 8, 9

Cost: $48.00

Big Pete's $ 1.00 Late Pick 3:

R9: 1, 5, 7

R10: 3, 5, 9, 12

R11: 5, 7, 9, 11

Cost: $ 48.00

Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:

Race 1:

(6) No Burn is the clear favorite in here and will look to wire the field in this lower level field; must play in here. (5) Invest is also going to be forwardly placed in here and if the pace is too hot, then I like this horse to compete for the wire late. (4) Healy's Hope is a closer I like in here at a really nice price. This horse has shown the ability to close strongly late and if the pace is hot, then let's look for this horse to be up there.

$5.00 Ex 6 w/ 4,5 Cost: $10.00

$2.00 Ex 4,5 w/ 4,5,6 Cost: $8.00

Race 2:

(2) B C Glory Days is going to be ridden aggressively from the break and be a wire to wire contender. I think Dylan Davis looks to save ground throughout and will be a really tough catch late. (6) Reap What you Sow and (8) Joshua are each exiting the same race and I think will both translate well to the switch to dirt. I will be including both to be running their strongest late.

$3.00 Ex Box 2,6,8 Cost: $18.00

Big Pete's "Play of the Day":

Race 3:

Not much of a price, but I like the shipper (6) DAWNLAND coming in off two solid runs, one of them a win. He comes to NY but it feels like a lateral move. He picks up Franco and there is a ton of speed going. They should sit chilly and run by late. I’ll try to get two prices underneath. Both (4) Rough Tough Love can hang in there or look for (5) Jacrodra’s Devil to come late

$ 10.00 Exacta 6 w/ 4, 5 Cost $ 20.00

We’ll also use Dawnland in R3 and try to crash in on a DAILY DOUBLE play.

(4) Rosemary Potatoes and (8) Classic Vinman will be longshots in the 4th

$ 7.00 Double 6 w/ 4, 8 Cost $ 14.00

Don’t concede the 5th to Royal Currency as she likes to finish 2nd. Take a shot with a price or one of the first time starters. I’ll take the 10:1 ML on the Atras runner (6) SHANE’S RISK getting L1 for her 2nd start . She faced Venti Valentine on debut so put a line through that one and she attract Franco.

$ 10.00 WPS 6 Cost $ 30.00

Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:

Race 6:

I landed on two in here and I will start to the outside in (9) Cable Channel. I think Dylan will allow this horse to find his footing early in the race and set him down the stretch late. (3) Box of Joe is coming into this one off of a win and training well coming in. I think Cancel will use the post position to his advantage and have the lane open up late to run down the tiring horses.

$5.00 Ex Box 3,9 Cost: $10.00

Race 7:

(1) Stage Left to the inside wired the field last time out and will look to do the same in here. I think this horse has plenty in the tank for stamina and will be a tough horse to battle without throughout the race. (3) Fitzpatrick is a closer with back to back triple digit beyer speeds coming into this race. I think that Trevor McCarthy will be aggressive enough early to put this horse in contention and the late speed will be the winning move. (4) Big Engine is still running extremely well and I am throwing the last race out. This horse is geared up coming into this one and the speed shouldn't be as hot as the last time this horse was on the track. (6) Prince James is my last play to the outside as this horse has beaten better, but losing as the favorite last time out has me a bit weary. This horse's best will win it in here, but I think it is a crap shoot as to if the horse will have it today.

$3.00 WPS 3 Cost: $9.00

$2.00 Ex 1,3 w/ 1,3,4,6 Cost: $12.00

$1.00 Ex 4,6 w/ 1,3,4,6 Cost: $6.00

Race 8:

(1) Devil or Angel to the inside has performed best on grass and should use the rail to their advantage. (6) Feathers Road is switching surfaces and should do so seamlessly. This horse has been training extremely well and should possess some early speed in here to keep in contention throughout. (8) Marinara Sauced from the Chad Brown barn is a dangerous Laobon. I think we have to include with it being on grass and could be a maiden breaking race to set up for bigger and better things. I think that (9) Dreampoint is an extremely interesting play to the outside. I think the cutback in distance and the speed rider will pay off in here.

$3.00 WPS 1 Cost: $9.00

$2.00 Ex 1,8 w/ 1,6,8,9 Cost: $12.00

$1.00 Ex 6,9 w/ 1,6,8,9 Cost: $6.00

Big Pete's Late Pick 3:

Race 9:

Of the speeds, I want (9) GOLANI BRIGADE. He’s been popular in the claim game so they must see something there. His 2nd place finish last time puts him in the mix and maybe they don’t catch him today. (7) DOUBLE SHOT needs others to go with Golani. He has a strong finish in him as he displayed three back. I like the switch to Gomez as this guy has been 1st or 2nd over 50% of the time. The 8yr old, (1) SICILIA MIKE still keeps coming. The rail draw should work in his favor saving some ground. If Cancel can find a seem, they will be heard from late.

$ 7.00 WPS 1 Cost $ 21.00

$ 3.00 Ex 1, 7 w/ 1, 5, 7, 9 Cost $ 18.00

Race 10:

(12) SHERIFF BIANCO has the speed but must clear fro way out there. Ward usually has them quick away from the gate so they shouldn’t have that much trouble. The far turn comes quick though at Belmont. (9) DEEP COVER will be his nemesis up front. He was held hard last time but today’s instructions will likely be go and try to hang on. I like two closers to fight it out late. (3 UNCLE GEORGE was off for a few months and came back a little short for Clement in April. He was bet that day and was a non threatening 4th. Franco sticks and he has that feel of a live horse to me. His best race came with some give in it and has speed up front. (5) COOL LAOBAN also comes off a little rest and makes his 2022 debut. Adds L1 and has been very fast in the morning. He’s faced better ( Senbei ) and tackled open company last year. Now they move back against NY Breds and has some Belmont experience and a win on this turf.

$ 7.00 WPS 5 Cost $ 21.00

$ 3.00 Ex 3, 5 w/ 3, 5, 9, 12 Cost $ 18.00

Race 11:

The focus will be (11) TINGLING MINT. She drops for Clement and Davis gets the call. Both runs against MSW were ok so why the drop after a long vacation. You’re supposed to bet against these types but use as a savor. That’s why I landed on (9) JUST A NYQUIST who moves back to the turf. Franco is still hot and they may have found the right field with the slight drop. Atras is off to a fast start as well. Donk sends out (7) BOCA KITTEN and stretches her out. (5) MONDEUSE has speed and moves back to the preferred turf. If they leave Trevor alone, they could be dangerous.

$ 7.00 WPS 9 Cost $ 21.00

$ 3.00 Ex 7, 9 w/ 5, 7, 9, 11 Cost $ 18.00
