We’re looking at a 9 race card on this holiday weekend at Beautiful Belmont Park. Short fields as expected as Trainers may be saving their barn for the Spa meet in less than two weeks. I will be condensing my plays to just the number and will be taking down the early double (Races 1-2) and a middle pick 3 ( Races 4-6 ) . Big Pete will have his full breakdown on his "Play of the Day" and the late pick 3 ( Races 7-9 ). We appreciate you taking a look at this write-up and GOOD LUCK.
Little Pete's $2.00 Early Double:
R1: 1, 2, 5
R2: 1, 3, 7
Cost: $18.00
Little Pete's $ 1.00 Spot Pick 3:
R4: 4, 6, 7
R5: 1, 2, 4, 8
R6: 2, 4, 6
Cost: $36.00
Big Pete's $ 1.00 Late Pick 3:
R7: 4, 6, 8
R8: 3, 5, 6
R9: 5, 6, 7, 8
Cost: $ 36.00
Little Pete's Early Double:
Race 1:
(5) Aaron is my top pick in here who should be sent to sit right behind the speed to his inside and wait for the stretch to do his best running. (1) Certified Lover Boy is another horse I really like in here with the rail position and the early speed on display in the workouts. (2) Lost Ark is the other Pletcher in this one that has the pedigree and should sustain a huge run in this sprint.
$3.00 WPS 5 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex Box 1,2,5 Cost: $12.00
Race 2:
(7) Quaria Thunder is the clear favorite in here for me and a must play, which makes we want to target some longer shots on the board to partner with this horse. (3) BelleShazza is a very interesting horse in here with Rosario choosing to ride again. This horse had a compromised race last time out but still was able to eat up ground late. I think with a better break and some experience in handling for Rosario will pay off dividends in here. (1) RequestForProposal is getting the nod in here for me as well because of the post position and the current form. I do not love this horse, but this horse could get the better ride in here to find the wire first.
$3.00 Ex 7 w/ 1,3 Cost: $6.00
$2.00 Ex 1,3 w/ 1,3,7 Cost: $8.00
Big Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 3:
A short field of 5 show up and (2) CADEAU DEPAIX shows up with a heavy class advantage. She’s 7 now, so she’ll need to show up and run her race which were expecting as she used a turf sprint for her debut that earned a decent speed figure. We’ll use on top and try to get (5) VIOLENT POINT to pass (3) GIRL OF TOSCONAVA late for the exacta.
$ 10.00 Exacta 2 w/ 3, 5 Cost $ 20.00
We’ll also use Cadeau De Paix in R3 and try to cash in on a DAILY DOUBLE play.
(6) Legends Can’t Die and (7) Almanzo look solid in the 4th
$ 10.00 Double 2 w/ 6, 7 Cost $ 20.00
Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:
Race 4:
(4) Cynwyd is my top pick in here under Johnny V and the Wesley Ward barn. This horse is going to be sent to the lead and not look back; trust Johnny V. (6) Legends Can't Die is training lights out and attracts Luis Saez for the mount. This horse will be live in here and worth the investment. (7) Almanzo is the "experience" in this one with the most races under his belt and that matters when it comes to these maiden special weight races. Rosario will find a spot right behind the pace and let the experience shine late.
$3.00 WPS 4 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex Box 4,6,7 Cost: $12.00
Race 5:
I have to include the two Brown runners in here because we are in New York, we are on the turf, and the two horses look live coming in. I expect (2) Sifting Sands is going to be aggressive early and be in position throughout and (4) Emaraaty is going to be running his best race late down the stretch. (1) Floriform is going to be running a big race late in here and that is the typical running style that takes these races. My last play will be an aggressive ride from (8) Ocala Dream who is ascending at the moment in the last three races with triple beyer speeds and coming into this one with a bullet workout.
$3.00 WPS 2 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex 2,4 w/ 1,2,4,8 Cost: $12.00
$1.00 Ex 1,8 w/ 1,2,4,8 Cost: $6.00
Race 6:
(2) Luni Sima has the post position and the closing speed to catch the early speed horses late. Luis Saez is one to trust and I think this horse gets it done in here. (4) Motion to Strike is coming into this one with a win in his previous race and I like horses taking the jump up in class. Castellano will be aggressive early and find the rail to save ground throughout and have this horse poised for a nice stretch drive. (6) Mocephus is my last play coming into this one very strong and the workouts appear to signal that this horse is in great form.
$3.00 WPS 2 Cost: $9.00
$4.00 Ex 2 w/ 4,6 Cost: $8.00
$2.00 Ex 4,6 w/ 2,4,6 Cost: $8.00
Big Pete's Late Pick 3:
Race 7:
A heavy favorite to start this late pick 3 may lead to a small payout, but we’ll use a few in here incase the Brown filly is not quite ready. (6) HIGHER TRUTH may only need to be 80% today but she is coming off an 8 month vacation. She has trouble hanging on at these long races but most of those were against better. However, she will have company up front as Pletcher sends out the speedy (8) STAR SEEKING to try and steal this one. If they leave Jose alone up front, he can muscle her home through the stretch. I’m a little interested in the “other” Brown filly (4) CAFÉ FLEUR and the hot riding Franco. She likes to wait and come with a run late. With the top two duking it out up front, this will give this gal a chance at reeling them in. I can’t pass up 15:1 ML on a Brown runner.
$ 7.00 WPS 4 Cost $ 21.00
$ 3.00 Ex 4, 8 w/ 1, 4, 6, 8 Cost $ 18.00
Race 8:
They will bet the Brown mare (5) LOVE AND THUNDER as she won easy in her 2022 debut. I’ll use but she faces a much better group and prefers 2nd. (6) MESSIDOR has turned it up a notch and tries the big leagues today. She has responded to Castellano in her last three and found a short field to make her Stakes debut. She doesn’t have to improve much off her June 10th win. I like the Point Of Entry mare, (3) FLOWER POINT stretching back out to 1M. A fast closing 3rd three back prompt Shug to try the G2 company, but that didn’t work out. She then used a G3 sprint to set her up nicely for this Perfect Sting distance. All systems go as regular rider Lezcano is riding well.
$ 7.00 WPS 3 Cost $ 21.00
$ 3.00 Ex Box 3, 5, 6 Cost $ 18.00
Race 9:
(7) BEACH BOY AL has a swift bullet work last week at Saratoga. Weaver decides to ship him down south instead of waiting 2 weeks to run him at the Spa. Throw in Rosario first time and you have to think this guy is live today. The “other” Weaver, (8) SINFUL DANCER has speed figures much higher than this field so I’ll include as well. Pletcher is on fire right now so his firster, (6) STREET TSAR will also be used as we get a decent 9:2 ML. (5) FULL COMPLEMENT didn’t do much running in his debut but that was on the turf and he was very wide. I like the switch to dirt and they add L1. I have to take a shot at this 10:1 ML who sports a bullet last week and loses weight with the other Jose up.
