Pete's Picks 10/24 Belmont Plays

Writer: Little PeteLittle Pete

We have a 10 race card at Belmont on this Football Sunday in October. We will be looking to handicap each of the races to close out the weekend strong. I will be locked into taking down the early double (Races 1 & 2) and a spot pick 3 (Races 5-7). Big Pete will be looking to take down a couple of his "Plays of the Day" as well as the late double (Races 8-10). We appreciate you taking a look at this write-up and GOOD LUCK.

Little Pete's $2.00 Early Double:

R1: 1, 5, 7

R2: 1, 3, 7

Cost: $18.00

Little Pete's $ 1.00 Spot Pick 3:

R5: 2, 4, 5, 6

R6: 3, 4, 11, 12

R7: 2, 7, 8

Cost: $48.00

Big Pete's $ 1.00 Late Pick 3:

R8: 1, 5, 7, 8

R9: 1, 2, 5

R10: 1, 4, 5

Cost: $ 36.00

Little Pete's $2.00 Early Double:

Race 1:

(1A) Ballot Initiative will be closing strongly late and there is some early speed in here that will benefit this fillies late run. (5) Never Content is getting back to grass and Saez is getting the mount which leads me to believe that we will have a front running effort in here. This horse should be able to find the early lead and with a weak field behind her, I trust her to run a big one in here. (7) Wicked Happy is a decent price that will come down come post time and should run a similar front running style race. I think Alvarado will be aggressive early and attempt to run on with it late.

$3.00 WPS 5 Cost: $9.00

$2.00 Ex Box 1,5,7 Cost: $12.00

Race 2:

(1) Joycee Haz Pizzaz beat most of this field last time out and I have to give him a play in here with the favorable post position. (3) Storm Advisory is going to be aggressive from the start and in this sprint could be too much to pass late. (7) Flower For Lisa is running well coming into this one and should be closer to the field this time out. I think a more aggressive ride early to get a rail position will benefit this horse greatly.

$3.00 WPS 3 Cost: $9.00

$2.00 Ex Box 1,3,7 Cost: $12.00

Big Pete's "Play of the Day":

Race 3:

(5) FATHER WALSH tried turf last time and liked it. Not the best start for him but still managed to get within 4 lengths. The Fox returned to win next out so we’re expecting this guy to improve as Castellano fills in for Irad.

$ 10.00 WPS 5 Cost $ 30.00

$ 7.00 Ex 5 w/ 4, 7 Cost $ 14.00

Big Pete's "Play of the Day":

Race 4:

(1) MILES D just looks better than these so we won’t try to beat him. He likely stalks the three speeds and then waits for Johnny V’s cue.

(5) Adare will follow that move but won’t be able to catch him.

$ 20.00 Ex 1 w/ 5 Cost $ 20.00

Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:

Race 5:

(4) Advise and Consent looks to be the clear winner in here and a must play. This horse is going to be strategically placed throughout and wait for the stretch to do his best running under the guidance of Jose Ortiz. I do like (2) Please the Pharoah to be closing strongly late as well and with the post position should be able to save ground throughout, which pays off late. (5) Rock Sugar is moving back to grass and has some impressive races under his belt already. This horse looks to be in good form and could run his best race to date this 5th time out. (6) Aruba was compromised late and should have much more stamina in this one. I think Lezcano will allow this horse to find his place early and wait for the opportunity to strike late.

$5.00 Ex 4 w/ 2,5,6 Cost: $15.00

$1.00 Ex 2,5,6 w/ 2,4,5,6 Cost: $9.00

Race 6:

(12) Digital Software from the outside is coming in breaking his maiden and remains at a claiming level. Teh pedigree may be too much for this field and Castellano may have the freshest horse late to run down the leaders. (11) Straight Skinny is coming in with a win in wire to wire fashion on dirt. I think this horse runs a similar tactic in here and if left alone will be a tough catch late. (3) Tulfarris is exiting a key race coming into this one and should benefit from the post position to be able to find the rail early. This will allow the horse to save some energy until the stretch drive and have a convincing move late. (4) Halpert is my last play who is coming in to this one in good form and I trust Dylan Davis to be aggressive enough to have this horse involved throughout; that should pay off well late.

$3.00 WPS 4 Cost: $9.00

$2.00 Ex 4,12 w/ 3,4,11,12 Cost: $12.00

$1.00 Ex 3,11 w/ 3,4,11,12 Cost: $6.00

Race 7:

(2) Cherokee Song is cutting back in distance and has the speed and rail position to make some noise in here. I think this horse should shoot from the gate to find the early lead or sit right behind it and then strike late down the stretch. (7) East Wing is a horse I like to sit behind the early speed and have a convincing stretch drive; Eric Cancel is finding his way on the track. (8) Miss Peppina is going to wait for the moment to strike down the stretch and Kendrick will have a great close down the lane in this one; must play.

$3.00 WPS 2 Cost: $9.00

$2.00 Ex Box 2,7,8 Cost: $12.00

Big Pete's Late Pick 3:

Race 8:

Princess Fawzia is on a roll right now so I’ll use the two that exit her 10/3 race. (5) GIGGLE FACTORY was moving with the Princess but came up just short. (7) GAMBLING CAT couldn’t hold them off but is fresh off the Casse claim and we’re expecting some improvement. (1) LIDO KEY is the new face as she returned to run big off the layoff and now steps up for Maker. She’s been 1st or 2nd in her last five. It’s hard not to like (8) COMMAND POINT in this spot. Weaver has his stable clicking right now and Franco has been the beneficiary. They team up here and look poised to make a big run late.

$ 7.00 WPS 8 Cost $ 21.00

$ 3.00 Ex 1, 8 w/ 1, 6, 7, 8 Cost $ 18.00

Race 9:

I just don’t trust the favorite (2) SHAMROCKET in this spot so we’ll use defensively and try to beat him. (1) TIDE OF THE SEA will be dangerous as he’ll sit just off the front runner, Mo Gotcha. Saez will take control entering the far turn and spurt away from the closers. They’ll have a tough time reeling this English Channel in if they are not paying attention. (5) BEACON HILL ships in and attracts Johnny V. He continues to improve each time out and should be up for this challenge. The aluminum pads are a concern but he ran well last time with them.

$ 7.00 WPS 1 Cost $ 21.00

$ 3.00 Ex 1, 5 w/ 1, 2, 3, 5 Cost $ 18.00

Race 10:

We’ll focus on the two geldings dropping in for a tag and a first time starter to close out this Pick 3. (5) KADEN took some money in his debut and then ran into a decent group of MSW. The drop will help as they figure to stalk and come late. (4) SUIT OF ARMOR has faced some good sprinters on the turf. If he can transfer either one of his Spa runs to this Big Sandy surface, they all are running for 2nd. He’s a Frosted so dirt in his face shouldn’t be an issue. The first time starter (1) SWINTON go out L1 and sports a big bullet for his debut. He’s not facing any monsters in here so if he flashes that speed, they may not be able to close in.

$ 7.00 WPS 5 Cost $ 21.00

$ 3.00 Ex 4, 5 w/ 1, 4, 5, 10 Cost $ 18.00
