Saratoga: Sunday, 8/7, Plays - Pete's Picks

Writer: Little PeteLittle Pete

Sunday at the Spa and we have a nice 10 race card to close out the weekend. I will be locked in to taking down the early double (Races 1 & 2) and a spot pick 3 (Races 5-7). Big Pete will be focused on taking down a pair of "Plays of the Day" as well as taking down the late pick 3 (Races 8-10). We appreciate you taking a look at this write-up and GOOD LUCK.

Cost: $48.00

Big Pete's $ 1.00 Late Pick 3:

R10: 1, 3, 5, 10

Little Pete's Early Double:

Race 1:

(8) Talkin Pharoah should find the lead early and will be a tough catch late. Wesley Ward horses second time out after a close defeat always seem to be executing on all cylinders. I will then close with the two George Weaver horses in (3) Chiringo and (9) Surprise Payoff. I am leaning on the inside horse with Castellano aboard to run a big one late. Both of these horses have been impressive in the morning and I think that translates to the afternoon.

$3.00 WPS 3 Cost: $9.00

$2.00 Ex Box 3,8,9 Cost: $12.00

Race 2:

(4) Good Skate is my top pick in here with some class relief and the nature that this horse will run this one. Jose Gomez will seek the lead and should be able to find it without exhausting too much energy. This horse is going to be a tough catch late and a wire threat. (3) Blue Jays seems to change barns each time out on the track and the consistency each time out warrant this horse to be on the ticket alone. Saez is going to be aggressive and should make a splash late. (1) Critical Threat has won at this distance and gets Irad back aboard; that should do the trick to make this horse extremely dangerous late.

$3.00 WPS 4 Cost: $9.00

$2.00 Ex Box 1,3,4 Cost: $12.00

Big Pete's "Play of the Day":

Race 3:

(2) Goodnight Olive has been dominating her rivals and but I question those fields that she has been facing. She has talent but today she runs into a decent bunch of gals and there is real speed in here. I’ll take a shot on one of the closers making the last move. Wilkes doesn’t start that many at the spa but when he does, they come ready to run. He’s 33% in the win column and brings (5) LIBERTY M D in. She started her career with back to back wins and then tried G3 company here last year. That didn’t work and they put her on the shelf. She has improved each start out this year and seems pointed for this Spa meet today. Worth the 6:1 ML to take a shot against the 4:5 favorite.

$ 7.00 Exacta 5 w/ 2, 7 Cost $ 14.00

We’ll also use (5) Liberty M D in R3 and try to cash a DAILY DOUBLE play.

We’ll use (1) Apple Picker and (6) Damaso in the 4th.

$ 7.00 Double 5 w/ 1, 6 Cost $ 14.00

Big Pete's "Play of the Day":

Race 4:

(1) Apple Picker has the inside position and early enough speed to find the rail position in the Gr.3 Adirondack. Johnny V will wait for the lane to open up late down the stretch and show off this impressive 2 year old.

$7.00 WPS 1 Cost: $21.00

Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:

Race 5:

My top pick in here is an improved effort from (1) Just an Angel. Rosario will be able to allow this horse to show off the early speed on the rail and the race experience will show late with improved stamina. (6) Bisset is training consistently and well and I think Irad will be able to eat up ground late down the stretch. (8) Peace Cruiser has been turning heads in the morning and warrants a play in here. This horse should be able to show off a late kick under Alvarado. My last play is going to be (4) Raging Sea who is going to be a horse that sticks around throughout and should be able to let loose come stretch time.

$3.00 WPS 1 Cost: $9.00

$2.00 Ex 1,8 w/ 1,4,6,8 Cost: $12.00

$1.00 Ex 4,6 w/ 1,4,6,8 Cost: $6.00

Race 6:

I love the Chad Brown firster in here in (4) Pink Hue. I think that Flavien Prat is going to save ground throughout and have a fresh horse wide to run down the front runners. (9) Delight is going to be on the lead and that has shown to be the place to be in these races. Luis Saez is a menace on the lead and will be very difficult to pass late. (6) Invest Wisely and (10) La Mazel are both daughters of Justify and I think will show off the late kick down the stretch. I expect both of these horses to be towards the front and be able to handle this distance without issue.

$3.00 WPS 4 Cost: $9.00

$2.00 Ex 4,9 w/ 4,6,9,10 Cost: $12.00

$1.00 Ex 6,10 w/ 4,6,9,10 Cost: $6.00

Race 7:

I love (6) Oakhurst to run a game race in here with the switch to Rosario and this horse should step up to the challenge. I also like (5) Contemporary Art coming into this one after breaking her maiden. This horse is finding her groove and should be able to be involved throughout. My last play will be the impressive (2) Mckulick who fanned out wide in the Belmont Oaks and looked MUCH the best. Irad is such a great grass rider and he will be a major threat late.

$3.00 WPS 6 Cost: $9.00

$2.00 Ex Box 2,5,6 Cost: $12.00

Big Pete's Late Pick 3:

Race 8:

There really isn’t a stand out in this 7F Alw. Brown will attract money on lightly Raced (4) EMPIRE HOPE. I can’t talk you off that one but I don’t like runners facing winners for the first time. I’ll use defensively and try to beat her. (5) COLORFUL MISCHIEF has hit the board in three starts and Pletcher sticks with Tyler. She’s won at this 7F distance so the cut back today should have her on her toes. That was a salty group she tried two turns against and gets a little relief today. (8) PORTILLA looks dangerous after she was off for a year and came back in June in a big way. She clearly has improved from last years figures and has the highest speed fig of this bunch. Stall shipping in is a good sign she’s here for a reason. (9) BIG CITY MOMMA is a price that gets the hot Castellano. It wouldn’t surprise if she passes tiring horse late for a piece.

$ 7.00 WPS 8 Cost $ 21.00

$ 3.00 Ex 5, 8 w/ 4, 5, 8, 9 Cost $ 18.00

Race 9:

I think (5) JOUSTER will be your likely favorite and filly to beat. Saez got her to settle and get this 1M distance last month beating the rail runner. I’ll use but I have to give the Cairo Prince filly, (3) STUNNING PRINCESS a shot in here. She finished last year with some high speed fig’s and continued to post them in two starts this year. Both her wins have come at this 1M distance and Rosario gets the call. She’s been running bullets in the AM here for this. (6) OUR FLASH DRIVE always shows up and Davis is familiar with her. She sports the high speed figure exiting the G2 Nassau up North. (8) ASSERTIVE STYLE is the wise guy choice. She was gaining on sprint specialist and will try to carry that kick the extra distance.

$ 7.00 WPS 3 Cost $ 21.00

$ 3.00 Ex 3, 6 w/ 3, 5, 6, 8 Cost $ 18.00

Race 10:

I’ll try to wire the field with (5) MASETA in the nightcap. Rice calls on stable rider to nurse him along and then bottom them out coming into the stretch. (3) BLESS BLESS has picked it up in his last two. He moves to the maker barn and is introduced to Saez. A must use for me. (1) DIGITAL SOFTWARE has been away for a while but it’s Brown/Irad. He’s going to have to shake off the cobwebs but we seen this before from these connections. Maybe the horse to beat will be (10) MERCI. If they can handle the outside post and save ground somewhere, they will be closing in late. I’m thinking it will be too late but Clement is doing well again..

$ 7.00 WPS 5 Cost $ 21.00

$ 3.00Ex 3, 5 w/ 1, 3, 5, 10 Cost $18.00
